Pediatric endocrinology in Tabriz, for families outside Iran.
This page is for visitors and Iranian families living abroad whose child has a growth, puberty, thyroid or diabetes concern and who are thinking of seeing Dr. Siamak Shiva, a pediatric endocrinologist in Tabriz. It explains what to collect before you come and how to reach the support team.
Before you travel
Gather what you have. Clear copies or phone photos are fine to start with.
- Every height and weight you have, with dates: the child's health booklet, school records or a growth chart from another clinic
- Both parents' heights, and the age puberty began for each of them, if known
- Recent blood test results, and any newborn screening result
- Bone age X-rays: the film or image itself as well as the report
- Every medicine your child takes or has taken: the name, the dates and how your child responded
- For diabetes: the insulin plan, and glucose records or a sensor download
- Reports of any hospital stay, surgery or treatment in another country
The way to send these documents is still being confirmed. For now, call the international support line: +989302272111

Practical questions
Can a diagnosis be made from records alone?
No. Records help the doctor understand the situation, but a diagnosis and a plan come after measuring, examining and the right tests.
Should we stop or change any medicine before we travel?
No. Keep giving your child's medicines as prescribed, and do not stop or change any of them without your own doctor. Bring the list with you.
We are travelling with insulin. What should we think about?
Ask your child's own diabetes team before you travel. Carry insulin and supplies in your hand luggage, take more than you expect to need, and bring a letter from your doctor.
How long would we need to stay in Tabriz?
It depends on the tests your child needs, so ask after the first visit. Many of these conditions are followed for months or years, and one trip rarely finishes the work.
My child has become very thirsty, is vomiting or is breathing fast. Can we wait until we travel?
Please do not wait. These can be signs of diabetic ketoacidosis, which needs emergency care where you are, today. See the list of urgent signs in the guide.
What about language, fees and insurance?
These are not confirmed yet and are listed above as awaiting details. Please do not assume anything until they are confirmed.
What number do I call in an emergency?
115 is Iran's emergency number. It works only while you are in Iran. From abroad, use your local emergency number.
Every child's situation is different; ask your doctor about your own child.
