How an assessment in pediatric endocrinology usually goes

It starts by listening: what worries the family and since when, how the child was born and has grown, any illnesses and medicines, and how tall the parents are.

Then come careful height and weight measurements and an examination. The measurements go on the growth chart and, if needed, blood tests or a bone age X-ray are asked for. Each result is read together with the chart and the examination, not on its own.

Not every child needs treatment, and sometimes watching over time is the right step. If treatment is needed, the reason, the options and what each can and cannot do are explained in plain words, and the follow-up plan is clear.
